NEWPORT, R.I. -- Senior OF Geoff Stillman (Scituate, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and two RBI, while first-year RHP Jimmy Fahey (Danbury, Conn.) struck out five batters over six-plus innings to collect his first career win, as the visiting Trinity College Bantams downed the Salve Regina University Seahawks, 7-3, in baseball action this afternoon at Reynolds Field.
Trinity improves to 8-2 with its fifth victory in a row, while the Seahawks drop to 9-5 with their first loss in eight games. Trinity visits Wheaton College in Massachusetts on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and Salve Regina hosts Wentworth for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at noon.
Trailing, 2-0, after two innings, the Bantams scored their first run in the third inning on Stillman's RBI double, and went ahead, 4-2, in the fourth frame thanks to a sacrifice fly by sophomore Vince Capone (Ambler, Pa.), a single by rookie Michael Guanci Jr. (Wakefield, Mass.), and a Salve Regina error in the outfield. The Seahawks got one run back in the bottom of the third, but the Bantams scored three more times in the seventh inning on another Seahawk error, an RBI single by Stillman, and a passed ball.
Fahey went 6.2 innings and scattered nine hits with one walk to earn the decision. Senior tri-captain LHP Erik Mohl (Milton, Mass.) pitched the last seven outs and allowed just one hit with two strikeouts.
Seahawk senior Zack Smith (New Canaan, Conn.) paced the Seahawk 10-hit attack with a pair of base knocks. Michael Mathews (West Hartford, Conn.) pitched two innings of scoreless relief with four strikeouts.
