SEAHAWK MEN'S ICE HOCKEY RESULTS
Salve Regina 9, Johnson & wales 2
Portsmouth, Rhode Island - Portsmouth Abbey
Friday, February 2, 2018

Summary
The #6/7 Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team scored six unanswered goals, five in the third period, to defeat Johnson & Wales University 9-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Friday night.

Series and Streaks
The Wildcats own a 19-15-1 record in the all-time series however the Seahawks are 7-1-1 in the last nine meetings.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina freshman Ulysses Lalor (Great Falls, Va.) made 24 saves and allowed two goals to pick up his first collegiate victory in his first start.
  2. Salve Regina freshman Frankie Sullivan (Fairfield, Conn.) scored twice, his first career goals.
  3. Salve Regina freshman Timothy Sweeney (Hanover, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a tip in the second period, then cashed in on the powerplay to round out the Seahawks scoring on the night in the third period.

Key Stat of the Game
The Seahawks outshot the Wildcats 46-26, holding Johnson & Wales under double-digit shots in every period.

Turning Point
Victor Carlsson (Calmar, Sweden) scored his second powerplay goal of the night to draw the Wildcats within one score, 3-2, with 2:06 remaining in the second period and the Wildcats were poised to take momentum into the locker room. However with 33 seconds left in the period Frankie Sullivan grabbed a loose puck and snapped it on the goal from the right-wing side and it ricocheted off of Johnson & Wales netminder Mike Rockwell (Poughquag, N.Y.) and into the net. The goal was deflating for the visitors, and energizing for the home squad. The Seahawks wasted no time in the third period, scoring 35 seconds in, then potting back-to-back goals at 6:12 and 6:24 to pull away. The Seahawks scored twice more on the powerplay later in the final frame, capping a 6-0 scoring run.

Quick Hits

  • Rockwell (5-14-0) made 31 saves for the Wildcats while allowing six goals before being lifted for Tyler Ellor (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) who made six saves and allowed three more goals in 13:48 of action.
  • Six different Seahawks scored in the game.
  • Danny Philbrick (Rye, N.H.) scored his first career goal 35 seconds into the third period.
  • The Wildcats were 2-for-6 on the powerplay while the Seahawks were 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
