Construction on the Rodgers Recreation Center began in March 1999 and the first-ever game played was a 65-39 Salve Regina University victory over Rhode Island College in women's basketball on November 21, 2000.

On February 23, 2002, Seahawk women's basketball defeated Colby-Sawyer College, 54-42, for the first of three straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) titles for the program. Four days later, both men's and women's basketball hosted doubleheader postseason games (ECAC for the men against UMass Dartmouth; NCAA for the women against Kean University).

On September 12, 2002, Salve Regina women's volleyball debuted as a varsity program and hosted Wentworth Institute of Technology. In its very first New England Men's and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest, Salve Regina women's basketball defeated Mount Holyoke College, 77-29, on January 13, 2024.

The facility also houses two comprehensive fitness areas, sports medicine, dance studio, locker rooms, equipment/uniform storage, laundry, administrative offices, meeting rooms.
