WEDNESDAY (Jan. 27)
The men's and women's basketball teams host a double-header to start the week. The men's basketball team hosts Clark University at 5:30 p.m. Last week the team fell 84-66 to Babson College on the road on Tuesday, January 21. The Seahawks trailed 17-8 but engineered a successful 12-2 run to find a one-point lead midway through the first half. The Beavers following run established a 50-38 first half score and carried that momentum through the final buzzer. Against Emerson the Seahawks posted a decisive 80-66 win withÂ
Jack McMullen as the 21-point leading scorer. The team saw a tight 58-56 loss to No.19 WPI on Saturday, January 25.Â
Anthony DeThomas' steal with 6.5 seconds left to go kept the Seahawks in the game until the buzzer sounded.
Women's basketball plays Emerson College at 7:30 p.m. The Seahawks went 1-1 last week with a close 58-53 triumph over WPI and an 87-75 loss to Babson College. The second quarter was the difference maker for Salve Regina against WPI when the team outscored the Engineers 23-7. Against Babson a slow start to the game for the Seahawks did not stop the host from gaining traction late in the game. Game leader
Briana Neary posted an outstanding season-high 38 points and went 16-for-16 from the line against the Beavers.
FRIDAY (Jan. 31)
Both men's and women's ice hockey will be on the road this weekend on Friday and Saturday. Women's ice hockey starts it off at 6 p.m. in Henniker, New Hampshire when they take on New England College. Last week the team bested Elmira College twice at home at the Howard Rink. With two wins, including one shutout, freshman
Taylor Hannafan was named NEHC goalie of the week for January 20-26. Hannafan saw 75 saves in two games. In game one against the Soaring Eagles
Emily Wroblewski netted two goals following
Samantha McKenzie's initial success for a 3-1 final score. The following day
Riley Esposito scored 3:20 into the second period to achieve the 1-0 shutout.
Men's ice hockey will be in New York for a 7 p.m. puck drop against Elmira College. Last week the team split the series against Albertus Magnus College. On Saturday, January 25, the Seahawks held their fourth annual Mental Health Awareness Night alongside Newport Mental Health and NOSOLO. Newport Mental Health President and CEO Dayna Gladstein joined Seahawk captain
Damon Zimmer and Falcon captain Sam Anderson for a ceremonial puck drop before the game. Thanks to
Hoon Kim the Seahawks won 6-5 in overtime in game one. The Falcons trailed 5-4 but with 1:12 remaining in regulation they pulled their goalie and the extra attacker combined with a power play gave them the momentum they needed to make it 5-5.
SATURDAY (Feb. 1)
At 2 p.m. women's ice hockey will travel to play Smith College. Smith has an impressive 15-1 record heading into this week and comes off a 30-4 national runner-up season. The only loss the Pioneers have this year was a 63-60 result against UMass Dartmouth. When the team's last met during the 2023-24 season
Briana Neary and
Sofia Neary were the Seahawks No. 1 and No. 2 high-scorers.
Men's basketball takes on MIT for the second time this season on the road at 2 p.m. On Wednesday, January 8, the Seahawks beat the Engineers 75-67.
Jojo Powers contributed 25 points as the high-scorer. Senior captain
Declan Walmsley had 21 points to become the 23rd Seahawk in program history to reach 1,000 points.Â
Day two of men's ice hockey is underway at 3 p.m. when the Seahawks face the Soaring Eagles in an away game. The host will enter the game with an overall record of 10-5-2 and a conference record of 7-4-1. Last week Elmira went 1-1 with Babson college.Â
