Engineers grab a pair of four-run victories

NEWPORT, R.I. (Saturday, April 19, 2025) -- Salve Regina University softball fell to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in a pair of NEWMAC games at Toppa Field on Saturday afternoon, 6-2 and 5-1, in Newport, Rhode Island.

History: Today marks the eighth and ninth all-time meetings between Salve Regina and WPI on the softball diamond, and third and fourth as fellow NEWMAC members. The first three meetings came in 2014 -- Seahawks won 11-3 in Clermont, Florida, then again in Waltham, Massachusetts, in the ECACs, 7-5, on May 10, before the Engineers won 8-4 the next day. WPI has won the last five meetings including a sweep in the first NEWMAC doubleheader last season.

NOTEWORTHY
  • The Seahawks managed just two hits off WPI starter Sofia Knopf, but collected them in the same inning to score their lone run. Madeleine Oswald led off with a single and pinch-runner Madi Allard was sacrificed to second before Skyla Oliveira delivered a run-scoring double.
  • The Seahawks turned two double plays on the day, both coming from line drives and catching a WPI runner at second base.
