NEWPORT, R.I. (Saturday, May 3, 2025) -- Salve Regina University softball celebrated their seven seniors -- Morganti BelloJacey CoscielloSam FranceschiAlex KellyEmily LaneKylie LanteriOlivia Saccoccio -- before splitting its final regular season NEWMAC doubleheader with visiting Springfield College. Alex Kelly (W, 8-6) scattered four hits over seven innings for a complete-game victory, 2-1, in the opener. Jacey Cosciello led off the home first with a base on balls and moved to third on a pair of ground outs. After Emily Lane was hit by a pitch (adding to her school record), the Seahawk first baseman danced between first and second which gave Cosciello the opportunity to steal home. The Pride tied the score in the top of the fifth before Emily Moskal doubled in Morganti Bello with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth.

In Game Two, Springfield scored twice in the first before Salve Regina tied the score in the second. Four singles and an error led to two more Pride runs in the third and Lily McAuliffe (W, 8-1) finished with nine strikeouts for the 4-2 win.

History: Today marked the fifth and sixth all-time meetings between Salve Regina and Springfield on the softball diamond, and third and fourth as fellow NEWMAC members. The first-ever matchup was in the 2017 NCAA Division III Regionals with the Seahawks knocking off the Pride, 7-4, in Springfield (Friday, May 12, 2017). Springfield had won the next three meetings since then including in Florida the next spring (2018) with a 6-5 final. Last year in Springfield, the Pride swept a NEWMAC doubleheader with a Mercy decision in each contest -- 8-0 in five frames and 10-2 in six innings. Salve Regina's win in today's opener knocked Springfield out of the second place spot in the NEWMAC postseason.
