MANCHESTER, Conn. (Saturday, September 6, 2025)-- Salve Regina University women's and men's cross country raced at the George Suitor Invitational hosted by Trinity College, and junior
Anna Weygang led the way on the women's side while freshman
Cole Smith was the top Seahawk finisher on the men's team.
Weygang led the Seahawks with a second place finish (19:43) and 1:03 improvement from this course last year.
Isabella Hastings, was the next Seahawk to cross the line in fourth place (20:12).
Catherine Minegar, the third finisher for Salve at 22:57, ran a best at this course by 49 seconds. Freshmen
Delaney Roache and
Keira Sehl-Albert rounded out the scoring five in their first collegiate 5k bringing the Seahawks to a fifth place team finish.
Rookie
Cole Smith led the men's team for the second week in a row (18:24 for 5k). He was followed by
Justin Ruffler,
Gabe Victoria,
Carson Lau, and
Gianni Soucy.
Victoria ran a 27 second collegiate best on this course.
Both the men's and women's teams are off next week and will be competing at the Corsair Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, September 20, where both teams will be racing their championship distances for the first time this season. The race will feature 6K for the women's team and 8k for the men's team.
The George Suitor Invitational hosted by Trinity College was recently renamed after beloved Bantam's coach George Suitor, who had a legendary career at Trinity, leading numerous cross country teams and individuals to the NCAA Championship, including individual men's national champions and a runner-up team finish for the women's team.
