MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 17, 2026) - Salve Regina's spring trip to Florida concluded Tuesday with a pair of tightly contested games at the Space Coast Complex, where the Seahawks showed offensive flashes but ultimately came up short against Webster and rebounded with a gut check showing later in the day for its first win of 2026.
Game 5: Webster 5, Salve Regina 4
In the opener, Salve Regina pushed Webster to the brink before falling in a one-run decision, 5–4.
After two scoreless innings, the Seahawks struck first with a two-run third to seize early momentum.
Victoria Geisser (Scituate, R.I.) singled with one out and advanced to second on a throwing error. A groundout moved her to third before
Emily Cronin (Coventry, R.I.) produced a run-scoring double.
Gracie Keyes (Portsmouth, R.I.) followed with a triple to bring Cronin across the plate.
Webster responded late, however, plating three runs in the fifth and adding two more in the sixth to take control.
Salve Regina mounted one final rally in the seventh.
Madeleine Oswald (Whippany, N.J.) started the two-out surge with a single to shortstop before Cronin lined a single to right field.
Cami O'Rourke (Brookfield, Conn.) pinch ran and she and Cronin came home on a Keyes double to close the gap to a single run and putting the tying run in play, but the comeback fell just short.
The box score reflected a balanced offensive effort, with timely hits driving all four runs, though the Seahawks were ultimately undone by Webster's late-inning surge. The loss dropped Salve Regina to 0–5 on the young season and marked the program's second straight narrow defeat to Webster in the all-time series (the teams met in Tucson, Arizona, in 2024).
Game 6: Salve Regina 2, MCLA 1 (8 Innings)
Salve Regina needed extra innings—and a timely swing—to secure a hard-earned victory Tuesday afternoon.
In a tightly played, low-scoring contest at the Space Coast Complex, Salve Regina edged Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 2–1, in eight innings, riding clutch hitting and steady pitching to halt a brief skid.
The Seahawks struck first in the third inning, manufacturing a run with small-ball execution. After
Lillian Bridges (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) worked her way into scoring position,
Gracie Keyes (Portsmouth, R.I.) lined a single up the middle to plate the game's opening run and give Salve Regina a 1–0 lead.
Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts answered in the fourth, capitalizing on its own opportunity.
Alexandra Espel delivered an RBI single through the left side, knotting the game at 1–1 and setting the tone for a pitcher's duel over the middle innings.
From there, both sides struggled to string together offense. Salve Regina repeatedly put runners on base—drawing walks and benefiting from wild pitches—but could not deliver the decisive hit in regulation. MCLA, meanwhile, was held in check after its fourth-inning equalizer, with the Seahawks' defense and
Shea Murphy (Westfield, N.J.) preventing further damage.
The breakthrough finally came under international tiebreaker rules in the eighth. With a runner placed on second to start the inning,
Emily Cronin (Coventry, R.I.) delivered the game's biggest moment, driving a single up the middle to score
Emily Moskal (Southington, Conn.) and push Salve Regina ahead, 2–1.
Salve Regina made the slim margin stand in the bottom half, closing out the one-run victory to complete a resilient performance in a game defined by timely hits and missed chances.
Though the offensive numbers were modest, Keyes and Cronin supplied the key RBIs, while Bridges' speed and table-setting atop the lineup proved critical. In total, the Seahawks capitalized on just enough opportunities to outlast MCLA in a contest where every baserunner carried weight.
The win marked a turnaround for Salve Regina on the day, showcasing its ability to grind out results in close games—an encouraging sign as the team continues its early-season slate. Murphy finished with a career-high 11 strikeouts of Trailblazer batters.
Salve Regina (1-5) returns to Newport, Rhode Island, to host Bridgewater State University and Johnson & Wales University in non-league doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, at Toppa Field.
