NEWPORT, R.I. (March 26, 2026) -- Salve Regina University softball battled back from three- and four-run deficits in both ends of a non-league doubleheader with visiting Rhode Island College, but the Anchorwomen (12-4) prevailed in both contests at Toppa Field on Thursday, winning 10-7 in the opener before taking an 8-7 final in the nightcap.
Junior outfielder
Emily Cronin (Coventry, R.I.) batted 6-for-7 with three doubles in the twinbill. Salve Regina totaled 14 runs over the doubleheader after having totaled 14 runs over the previous eight games. The Seahawks were in double-digit hits for the second and third times this season. The 16 hits in Game Two represent a season high.
With six doubles, Salve Regina doubled its extra base hit total from the previous eight games.
The Seahawks (1-9) led 1-0 after one inning of play tonight. Freshman outfielder
Lillian Bridges (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) led off with a bunt single and stole second before moving to third on a ground out. She came home on the first of six singles for
Emma Plourde (Stratham, N.H.).
The Anchorwomen collected seven hits and six runs in the top of the second with a pair of singles from first baseman
Jillian Guilfoyle (Derby, Conn.) while
Lily Bell (Coventry, R.I.) smacked a triple. Salve Regina grabbed two runs back as Cronin led off with a double,
Madeleine Oswald (Whippany, N.J.) walked, both advanced on a wild pitch and then crossed the plate after a double from
Abby Merck (Lorton, Va.).
Salve Regina tied the score at 6-6 with a three-run third, all unearned.
Gracie Keyes (Portsmouth, R.I.) earned a walk after a 12-pitch at-bat to load the bases before Cronin delivered a sacrifice fly to center.
Skyla Oliveira (Smithfield, R.I.) stuck a two-out RBI single into center field. Rhode Island scored the go-ahead run in the fifth before adding three more unearned.
Plourde filled the box score with four hits while Cronin, Oliveira, and Merck each had two base hits.
In Game Two, the visitors jumped out to a 4-0 lead while bringing eight to the plate in the first. Salve Regina brought its starting nine to the plate in its first and tied the score.
Abby Merck had her second two-run double of the day.
The Anchorwomen pushed four more runs across the plate in the second before the Seahawks had RBI singles from Plourde, Cronin, and Oswald in their second. Neither team scored again as Salve Regina totaled a dozen runners left on base.
