Cronin homers twice as Salve Regina salvages split with Emerson

Seahawks end regular season with a win

BOSTON, Mass. (May 1, 2026) -- After slugging the season's first home run in the top of the fifth of Game One (a 16-4 loss), Salve Regina University softball junior outfielder Emily Cronin (Coventry, R.I.) homered again in the top of the sixth of Game Two, breaking a scoreless tie with a two-run shot to centerfield. Victoria Geisser (Scituate, R.I.) added an RBI double later in the inning and the Seahawks scored two more unearned runs in the seventh to win 5-1 and support the pitching effort of Shea Murphy (Westfield, N.J.).

The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the opener on a first-inning double by Cronin down the right-field line that scored Skylar Wicklund (Riverhead, N.Y.) who had singled to left center to start the game.

Emerson blew the game open with 13 in the bottom of the frame, 11 unearned.

Cronin doubled again in the third and crossed home plate when Gracie Keyes' (Portsmouth, R.I.) fly ball was dropped in centerfield. Keyes scored on a ground out RBI to second by Ryann Burke (Nutley, N.J.).

After Emerson took a 16-3 lead into the fifth, Cronin led off and launched the first Seahawk home run of the season, the fifth of her career.

Murphy stranded Lions on bases in each of the first four frames of the second game before getting a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth. In the Seahawk sixth, Wicklund reached on a single to the pitcher before Cronin crushed her second homer of the day to match her season output from each of her first two years in a Salve Regina uniform. Keyes doubled to left center before the next two Seahawks were retired and Geisser gave Salve Regina a 3-0 lead with her double to left center.

The Lions got on the board in their sixth when Caleigh Sheehan (Bolton, Conn.) doubled to left center to score Casey Yacovelli (Warminster, Pa.).

Multiple miscues by the hosts in the seventh led to a pair of unearned runs for the Seahawks who got a 1-2-3 in the bottom on a pair of bouncers to Murphy in the circle and a fly out to Burke in right to end it.
