Chris Ursillo joined the Salve baseball staff in July 2025.
A native of Warwick, R.I., Ursillo comes to Newport after spending the previous four seasons as the pitching coach at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. The Corsairs reached a pair of Little East Conference tournament championship games and won the title in 2024, earning the program's first NCAA Tournament berth in 24 years. Ursillo’s pitching staff allowed just three earned runs and struck out 29 during a perfect 4-0 run through the LEC bracket. UMass Dartmouth helped Adam Maher earn LEC Pitcher of the Year honors in 2024, and Ursillo also had a hand in developing multiple all-conference and all-region selections during his time on campus.
Prior to joining the staff with the Corsairs, Ursillo spent 11 seasons as the pitching coach at South Kingstown High School (R.I.) from 2011-21. The Rebels appeared in four Interscholastic League championship series and captured the program’s fourth state title in 2018. South Kingstown produced two state Gatorade Player of the Year winners in fellow Salve staff member Harrison Barlow (2011) and Sam Kenyon (2017), 33 total All-State selections and a pair of future Major League Baseball draft picks in Liam McGill (2021, Bryant) and Ben Brutti (2022).
Ursillo co-founded the Rhode Island Rebels Baseball Club in 2009, the state’s first College Prospect team. The organization graduated more than 120 players who went on to play in college, including 16 who eventually signed professional contracts. Rebels alums include pitchers Michael King and Thomas Pannone – who each eventually reached the major leagues – and Chris Hess, who was recently named Miami Marlins assistant hitting coach after his own playing career in the minor leagues.
Ursillo also spent two one-year stints with the Ocean State Waves, one of two Rhode Island teams competing in the summer New England Collegiate Baseball League. He was the pitching coach for the Waves during their inaugural season in 2013 and returned as the club’s pitching coordinator in 2023.
Chris and his wife, Chelsea, reside in South Kingstown with their son, Greyson, and their daughter, Maryn.
