David Haddeland – Offensive Coordinator, Salve Regina University Lacrosse
Coach David Haddeland enters his second stint as Offensive Coordinator at Salve Regina University, bringing over 22 years of coaching experience at various levels. A proven leader, he’s known for fostering a high-paced, selfless offensive strategy that prioritizes team success and individual growth.
Before returning to Salve, Coach Haddeland spent four years as the Head Coach at Bishop Hendricken High School, where he led the Hawks to three State Semi-Final appearances. His leadership and mentorship helped develop a generation of talented athletes, including 4 Second-Team All-State players and 3 First-Team All-State players during his tenure.
Success at Salve Regina and Beyond
Haddeland’s first tenure with Salve Regina began in 2012, when he was hired as Coach Cooney’s Offensive Coordinator. During his time with the Seahawks, Coach Haddeland helped establish one of the most successful eras in the program’s history. In 2014, his fast-tempo offense helped guide the team to a 15-5 record and the New England ECAC Championship. Under his guidance, the Seahawks set single-season school records in several categories, including games played (20), goals (268), assists (141), ground balls (816), and most importantly, wins (15). The team’s offensive output – including an average of 20.45 points per game – marked the pinnacle of Salve Regina lacrosse, making it one of the most dominant seasons in the program’s history.
A Player’s Perspective
Haddeland's lacrosse journey began long before his coaching career, and his playing experience continues to shape his coaching philosophy. A native of Mahopac, New York, he was a standout player in high school, earning All-American honors in 1998 and two-time All-League and All-Section 1 recognitions. He helped Mahopac capture the New York Class A State Championship in 1996 and earned medals in the Empire State Games in both 1996 and 1997.
Haddeland went on to play for Springfield College in Massachusetts from 1998-2002, where he played a pivotal role on the 2001 team that reached the NCAA quarterfinals, setting a program record with a 16-2 season. His experiences as both a midfielder and attackman gave him a well-rounded understanding of the game, which he now passes on to his players.
Coaching Legacy at Mahopac High School
After finishing his playing career at Springfield, Coach Haddeland returned to his roots and co-coached the Mahopac High School Men’s Varsity Lacrosse team for four years. During his time there, he mentored 4 All-American players and 23 All-Section honorees, while also leading the team to a Class A Section 1 Championship and Regional Championship in 2011. His exceptional leadership earned him the Section 1 Coach of the Year award that same season.
Dual Roles: Coaching and Education
In addition to his lacrosse coaching, Coach Haddeland has a deep passion for education and sports development. As a physical education teacher at Bishop Hendricken High School, he has had a significant impact on both the academic and athletic lives of his students. He also serves as a Varsity Football assistant coach, where he has helped the Hawks secure 12 state championships. His ability to coach multiple sports and teach in the classroom reflects his comprehensive understanding of student-athletes’ needs, both on and off the field.
