Corsairs blank Seahawks, 6-0

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Junior forward Stephanie Kinchla (Falmouth, Mass.) scored four goals to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's field hockey team to a 6-0 victory over visiting Salve Regina, 6-0, in a non-conference match at Cressy Field Thursday evening.

 

Kinchla scored all three of the Corsairs' goal in the first half. She converted freshman defender Taryn Cardiel's (Moorpark, Calif.) pass off a penalty corner to make it 1-0 with 12:30 remaining in the first half, then picked up a loose ball of the face-off and scored nine seconds later. Her third goal, on a rebound, came with 7:20 left in the first half and was assisted by junior defender Kate Dorrance (Rehoboth, Mass.).

 

Junior midfielder Linee Mello-Frost (New Bedford, Mass.) scored off a pass from Cardiel 31 seconds into the second half to make it 4-0. Kinchla scored her fourth goal of the night, one-timing home a pass from senior midfielder Kylie Treat (Hampstead, N.H.) at 48:14 to make it 4-0. Freshman forward Abby Zarotny (Waitfield, Vt.) completed the scoring when she converted a pass from sophomore defender Maille Lynch-Gilbert (Petersham, Mass.) at 54:33.

 

The Corsairs out shot the Seahawks, 19-3. Junior goalkeeper Seana Golden (Somerset, Mass.) made three saves for UMD, while senior Devin Eppley (Darien, Conn.) made eight stops for SRU.

 

UMass Dartmouth improved to 12-5 with the victory, while Salve Regina dropped to 8-10 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Keene State Saturday. The Seahawks will visit New England College Saturday.
