Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine - Erik Olson (Edina, Minn.) had four assists and teammates Brendan Reich (Montvale, N.J.) and Daniel Weiniger (Warren, N.J.) both scored twice as Bowdoin College fired 67 shots on goal in a 7-1 win over Salve Regina University on Saturday at Colby College's Alfond Rink.
The game is the first of two Saturday in the Bowdoin/Colby Face-Off Classic. Colby plays against the U.S. Under-18 National Team in an exhibition game in the second contest. Bowdoin (3-0) will meet the U.S. squad on its home rink Sunday at 6:30 p.m., while Colby and Salve Regina (1-3) meet in the first game at noon at Bowdoin.
The Polar Bears opened up a 4-0 lead after the first period, but Salve Regina did have 11 of its 10 shots in the first 20 minutes. Junior defensemen Reich tallied at 5:16 of the first period off assists from Robert Toczylowski (Reading, Mass.) and Olson.
Bowdoin went to work just 1:51 later when junior defensemen Kyle Shearer-Hardy (Montreal, Quebec) tallied from Ryan Blossom (Concord, N.H.).
The first goal participants joined forces again on Bowdoin's third score, a power play goal at 12:33. Reich got his second goal of the game from Olson and Toczylowski. The Polar Bears went up 4-0 at intermission when Weiniger scored an unassisted shorthanded goal at 17:41.
Salve Regina goalie Ben Bradley (Newburyport, Mass.) finished with 60 saves in the game, including 23 stops in the second period. He allowed just one goal in the period, the second game of the game by Weiniger on a power play.
Ryan Blossom made it 6-1 at 7:59 of the third period and Kyle Hanson (Calgary, Alberta) scored the final goal with just 1:02 left in the game for the Polar Bears.
In between those goals, Save Regina's Patrick Bambery (Braintree, Mass.) broke the shutout at 11:23 of the third period for the Seahawks.
Chris Rossi (Barrington, R.I.) played the first two periods in net for Bowdoin and stopped 12 shots. Richard Nerland (Calgary, Alberta) had five saves in 15:34 and John Scannell (Bridgewater, Mass.) played the final 4:26 and made two stops.
