HOOKSETT, N.H. - Seven different players scored for Beacons of UMass Boston as they posted an 8-3 win in men's ice hockey against the Seahawks of Salve Regina University on Saturday evening in the opening round of the Stovepipe/PAL Tournament. With the win, the Beacons see their record improve to 3-1-0 on the season, while the Seahawks remain winless and fall to 0-4-0 overall.

Rob Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) would tally the first goal for the Beacons 8:42 into the first period. He would add his second goal almost three minutes later to give UMass Boston the 2-0 advantage. The Beacons also saw single tallies from Bryan Albert (Redlands, Calif.), Steven Weston (Henniker, N.H.), Eric Tufman (Abington, Pa.), Chris Wyman (Bartlett, Ill.), Matt Atsoff (Macomb, Mich.), and Brett Calhoun (Tulsa, Okla.).

UMass Boston would take a 7-0 advantage before Eric Spalt (Barnstable, Mass.) tallied the first goal for Salve Regina 8:40 into the third period. After Calhoun's goal made it 8-1 in favor of the Beacons, the Seahawks would post the final two goals of the game at the 17:45 and 18:38 marks on goals from Bryan Russell (Essex Junction, Vt.) and Jonathan Cox (Norwalk, Conn.).

Thomas Speer (Wausau, Wisc.) earned the win in net for the Beacons, playing two periods and recording four saves before giving way to teammate Rob Libertore (Salem, N.H.), who stopped three shots. Ernest Foss (Rochester, N.H.) took the loss for the Seahawks, recording 20 saves.

UMass Boston advances to the championship game of the Stovepipe/PAL Cup, taking on tournament host Southern New Hampshire tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. Salve Regina will face the University of New England at 1:30 p.m. in the tournament consolation game.
