NEWPORT, R.I. - Wheaton College men's tennis carried the momentum it gained from sweeping the doubles matches to take the first four completed singles matches and defeat Salve Regina University, 7-2, at the Leroy Avenue courts on the Newport campus.
Juniors Harry Altman [Riverdale, N.Y.] and Brian Krantz [Milford, Conn.] produced an 8-3 victory at third doubles while senior James Little [Mount Desert, Maine] and junior Gregory Poulin [Boxboro, Mass.] earned an 8-5 win at second doubles. Senior Kyle Hudgins [Uxbridge, Mass.] and sophomore Neall Oliver [Portland, Maine] rallied for an 8-6 win at first doubles.
Salve Regina (4-7) earned its points at first and fourth singles. Freshman Chad Strong [San Diego, Calif.] captured his victory in straight sets while senior Andrew Martin [Glastonbury, Conn.] came from behind to win a three-set battle at first singles.
The Seahawks host Nichols College in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference contest on Monday, April 5 (3:30 p.m.), re-scheduled from last Saturday. Wheaton (7-2) plays at Coast Guard on Saturday.
