Box Score

MARLBORO, Mass. – On a day that saw the Becker Hawks don pink sweaters for Breast Cancer Awareness the ice hockey team battled back to a 7-5 win over Salve Regina Regina at New England Sports Center in ECAC conference action. Becker picks up their 10th win of the season improving to 10-12-3 (7-4-3 ECAC) while Salve Regina drops to 2-21-1 (1-13 ECAC).

Salve Regina topped the scoreboard first. After a Becker penalty Joe Colaianni (Monroe, N.Y.) scored off a pass from Kevin Sullivan (North Branford, Conn.) at the 8:50 mark of the first period. Becker tied the game at 1-1 with a shorthanded tally by Brian Murray (Manalapan, N.J.) just a minute and a half later. Sophomore Ron Pavia (Rehoboth, Mass.) picked up the assist. The Seahawks took a 2-1 advantage when Sullivan picked up a loose puck in the crease and put a backhand past the pipes as time expired in the period.

Senior Brent Pimental (East Falmouth, Mass.) quickly made it a 3-1 lead for Salve Regina with a goal just 1:33 into the second period. Becker rebounded with and even strength goal of their own a minute later when Cole Bell (Davenport, Iowa) scored off a centering pass from Korby Anderson (Owantonna, Minn.) and Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) to cut the lead to 3-2. Becker then tied it up 3-3 when Murray picked up his second of the game on a delayed penalty call. Again Becker gave up a late period goal when  Lee Trott (Rehoboth, Mass) scored a power play goal with just 5 ticks on the scoreboard to make it a 4-3 game after 40 minutes.

Becker dominated the third period. The Hawks tied the game at 4-4 at 4:49 of the third period. Freshman Michael Hollander (Thorndike, Ontario) scored with a wrist shot from just right of the net. The Hawks took their first lead of the game when David Graham (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) tipped a slap shot from Cole Bell from the blue line at 9:42. Becker increased the lead to 6-4 when Pavia buried an open net shot from the left circle with just over 3 minutes remaining in the game.

Becker goaltender Jake Rosenthal (Wantagh, N.Y.) had 23 saves in the win, while his counterpart Mike McDonald (Whitby, Ontario) had 35 saves.
