Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Rhode Island College women's volleyball team held on to defeat Salve Regina University in five sets, 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 20-25, 18-16), at The Murray Center on Saturday afternoon. The tough loss snaps a four game winning streak for the Seahawks in which they captured 12 straight sets.
Salve Regina (6-6) and RIC traded punches throughout the afternoon, with the Anchorwomen taking the first and third sets and the Seahawks winning frames two and four. The contest came down to the wire, with RIC squeezing by in the fifth set, 18-16, to improve its home record to 4-1.
Freshman outside hitter Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) and senior middle hitter Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) led the Seahawks with 16 and 15 kills, respectively.
Freshman middle hitter Marina Stoermer (Seattle, Wash.) led the team with 15 kills, to go along with seven digs. Boyer notched 13 kills and 14 digs for a double-double, while sophomore middle hitter Amanda Cabral (Riverside, R.I.) posted 10 kills and eight digs. Ho notched 31 assists in the win.
In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen head to Boston to take on Emmanuel College on Tuesday (7 p.m.), while the Seahawks host Western New England on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
