Coleman helps Seahawks salvage 2-2 draw with Pilgrims

HENNIKER, N.H. - Sophomore Shannon Coleman (Chicago, Ill.) scored the game-tying goal with less than nine minutes remaining in regulation, as the Salve Regina University women's ice hockey team held on through overtime to salvage a 2-2 draw with New England College during ECAC East action on Friday afternoon.  With the tie, both teams remain deadlocked in ECAC East standings at 3-4-2.  The visiting Seahawks now sit at 7-5-3 on the season, while the Pilgrims are 3-4-2 overall.
 
After a scoreless first period, the Pilgrims struck first 45 seconds into the second frame when Chelsea Torrico (Mt. Washington, Mass.) found Chelsie Boroski (Sterling Heights, Mich.) positioned at the point, who fired past Salve Regina goaltender Ali Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.) to notch her fourth goal of the season.
 
The Pilgrims maintained the 1-0 lead until the 18:04 mark of the second period when Salve Regina's Taylor Sheperd (Quincy, Mass.) evened the score at 1-1 on an assist by Rachel Porter (Franklin, Mass.).  
 
The score remaiedn even until the third period, when Amanda Grenier (Malden, Mass.) tallied her first goal of the season at the 6:05 mark.  Avery Kauffman (Castle Rock, Colo.) assisted on the goal.
 
Just over five minutes later, Shannon Coleman tipped a shot past NEC goaltender Kristen Connors (Weymouth, Mass.) to even the score at 2-2 and force overtime. Sheperd assisted on the goal.
 
Connors tallied 33 saves in net for the Pilgrims, while Muehlbronner recorded 25 saves in net for the Seahawks.

The Pilgrims wrapped up the afternoon 1-for-4 on power play opportunities, while the Seahawks finished 2-for-9 on power play chances.
 
NEC is back in action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when it hosts the College of Holy Cross in ECAC East action. The Seahawks will travel to face Castleton at 2 p.m. tomorrow in ECAC East action.
