Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. - Junior guard Isiah Pringle (Queens, N.Y.) made 12-of-13 field goal attempts including five 3-pointers for a career-high 29 points as Salve Regina University men's basketball defeated visiting Western New England University, 87-54, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) game at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
Pringle and Damon Alston (New Britain, Conn.) exchanged 3-pointers on early possessions in the opening two minutes. Pringle added another trey and a two-point jumper for an early 8-3 lead for the Seahawks.
Junior Joshua Hohlfelder (Noank, Conn.) made it 10-3 with his layup before the Golden Bears went on a 12-3 run. Dennis Rinaldi (Harrison, N.Y.) had two layups for Western New England (4-8; 3-3 CCC) during the run which had the visitors leading by two, 15-13, at 10:27.
Freshman Sinclair Lewis (Bristol, Conn.) hit a layup at 8:59 to forge the third and final tie before Salve Regina (7-5; 3-2 CCC) went on a 28-12 run covering over eight minutes. Junior Patrick Dinneen (Medfield, Mass.) scored six points for the Seahawks during that stretch including 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Freshman Brenden Fowler (No. Attleboro, Mass.) started the run with a layup while sophomore Eric MacKinnon (So. Easton, Mass.) added a 3-pointer as the Seahawk lead grew to 16 points, 45-29, before freshman Gary Allen (Windsor, Conn.) finished the first-half scoring with two free throws.
The Seahawks expanded the lead to 30 points during a 24-7 run over eight minutes in the second half (73-43; 9:37 on the clock). Sophomore Brendan Canova (Edina, Minn.) connected on his own 3-pointer after assisting on two from Pringle.
Alston's 3-pointer at 5:42 was the last field goal for Western New England as Salve Regina finished the game on an 8-1 run.
Alston and Rinaldi paced the visitors with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Dinneen, Hohlfelder, and Fowler joined Pringle in double-figure scoring with 14, 12, and 10 points, respectively. Junior Jeff Bielefeld (Littleton, Mass.) helped Salve Regina dominate the boards (41-to-29) with his game-high 11 rebounds.
