Box Score KINGSTON, R.I. – The Salve Regina women's ice hockey team fell to ECAC East foe, Norwich, 6-3, at Boss Arena on the campus of University of Rhode Island, Saturday night.
Norwich, currently ranked No. 6 in the latest USCHO.com national poll, got out to a quick 1-0 lead over the Seahawks (8-6-0, 4-4-0 ECACE). Junior Renee Lortie (Cornwell, Ont.) put the Cadets up 1-0 off a pass from junior Brittany Sharman (Ayre's Cliff, Ont.).
Taking advantage of their third power play opportunity of the first period, sophomore Sarah Markey (Ashland, Mass.) put the Seahawks on the board with her fourth goal of the season off a pass from sophomore Taylor Shepherd (Quincy, Mass.) and senior Rachel Porter (Franklin, Mass.). Senior Stephanie Invernnizzi (Hingham, Mass.) put the Cadets back on top with a goal from junior Marie-Philip Guay (Longueuil, Que.).
Junior Tori Charron (Tecumseh, Ont.) and Lortie gave the Cadets a 4-1 lead of the second period with their 13th and seventh goals of the season, respectively.
Sophomore Michaela Chiuccariello (Winchester, Mass.) cut the Cadet lead in half at 4-2 just over five minutes into the final period off an assist from senior Sarah McCusker (Havertown, Pa.).
With 1:48 to go in the final period, sophomore Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) netted a shorthanded unassisted goal to push the Norwich lead to 5-2. Just 14 seconds later, Shepherd scored off a pass from Porter to pull the Seahawks within two goals. Anderson netted the final goal of the game with just nine seconds showing on the clock from juniors Haley Gibson (Richmond, Ont.) and Emily MacKinnon (Kirkland, Que.)
Senior Ali Muehlbronner (Glenside, Pa.) made 18 saves in the loss while Norwich goalie junior Kelly Fisk (Hannibal, N.Y.) made seven stops in the win.
The Seahawks return to action when they travel to Hartford, Conn. to face Trinity (Conn.) in non-conference action on January 15 at 7:30 p.m.
