Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Lucas Sousa (Billerica, Mass.) had a pair of goals in the Salve Regina men's ice hockey 4-1 win over Western New England, Saturday night. With the win, the Seahawks improve to 6-1 on the year and are off to their best start in program history.

Freshman Trace Redmond (Dallas, Texas) opened the scoring for Salve Regina just 3:14 into the first period. Taking a pair of passes from sophomore Marc Biggs (Dallas, Texas)  and Sousa, Redmond scored his second goal of the year to give the Seahawks a 1-0 advantage.

Dan Monahan evened the game for Western New England with an individual effort at the 7:11 mark in the first. Sophomore Cameron Gaudet (Burlington, Mass.)  gave the lead back to Salve Regina with just over five to play in the opening period on his fourth goal of the season of a pass from classmate Michael Naso (Londonberry, N.H.).

On their first power play opportunity of the second period, freshman Jonathan Felteau (Peabody, Mass.) gave the Seahawks a little breathing room with his second power play goal of the season 2:49 into the middle period to extend the Seahawk lead to 3-1.

After 34:06 of scoreless action and the Seahawks leading 3-1, sophomore Peter Gintoli (Monroe, Conn.) put the game away for the Seahawks with his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Senior Chad Hollenshade (Lutherville, Md.) sent Gintoli a quick pass which he sent high into the top corner of the net with just over three minutes to play to give Salve Regina a 4-1 lead.

Defensively, junior goalie Jake Williams (Montreal, Canada) made 27 saves in the net for Salve Regina, including 13 in the final period of play. The Seahawk defense was a perfect seven-for-seven on penalty kills.

In net for Western New England, Tim Carr made 35 stops while allowing four goals.

Salve Regina returns to the ice when the Seahawks head to Trinity (Conn.) College next Saturday, November 30. The opening puck drop is set for 4 p.m.
