NEWPORT, R.I. - After winning two points by forfeit, the Bentley College men's tennis team won seven other matches to post a 9-0 defeat on Salve Regina University in non-league action in Newport.
The Seahawks (0-4) managed two games in 12 sets played.
The Falcons (2-0) gave up nothing in doubles as a pair of freshmen at first doubles - Brendan McCarthy (Falmouth, Maine) and George Samander (Willemstad, Curaçao) - best Salve Regina's top pair of senior Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.) and freshman Jack Lawlor (York, Maine), 8-0. Carroll's service in the final game gave the Seahawk duo its only game point opportunity of the eight-game pro-set.
Alex DeMuth (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and Chase Rosa (Hampton, N.H.) finished with an 8-0 score over Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.) and Matt Gingras (Wethersfield, Conn.).
Bentley swept through five singles matches in straight sets led by McCarthy at the top spot, although Lawlor picked up a game in the second set. Evan Chomka (Warwick, R.I.) and Jerry Liang (Shanghai, China) joined Rosa as straight-set singles winners by 6-0,6-0 scores.
Sam Frye (Redlands, Calif.) completed the sweep with his 6-0,6-1 score over Will Masse (Wyoming, R.I.).
Salve Regina finishes its fall schedule at U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Friday, October 24. Bentley has a re-scheduled match with Wentworth for tomorrow that may be re-scheduled again with the heavy rain forecast.
