Box Score MARLBORO, Mass. – The Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team defeats Becker College 8-0 loss in ECAC Northeast men's hockey action on Saturday night at the New England Sports Center. The win lifts the Seahawks to 2-1-2 (2-1 ECAC), while the Hawks fall to 1-4 (0-3 ECAC).
Salve Regina got the scoring started at the 11:51 mark when freshman James Malone (Beachwood, N.J.) beat Becker goalie Tyler Stepke (Mars, Pa.) top shelf. Teammates Evan Shultz (Durham, N.H.) and Pat Thompson (Hellertown, Pa.) picked up the assists. The Seahawks doubled the lead four minutes later when Shaun Altshuller (Nepean, Ontario) scored on a fluke play in the Hawks zone, as Stepke went behind the net to stop the puck entering the zone, the puck took an awkward bounce off the left boards right onto Altshuller's stick in front of a wide open net, giving Salve Regina an early 2-0 advantage.
The Seahawks broke the game open in the second period. Sophomore Jonathan Felteau (Peabody, Mass.) tipped the twine just 1:41 into the frame putting back his own rebound off an assist from Peter Gintoli (Monroe, Conn.). Midway through the period the Seahawks would score on the man advantage, Alex Pompeo (Hingham, Mass.) made it a 4-0 game with 8:52 to play. James Malone, who netted his second of the game and Matthew Carroll (Hackensack, N.J.) would add a pair of goals a minute apart to push the lead to 6-0 heading into the third.
Salve Regina rounded out the scoring with two goals in the third period for the 8-0 final.
Becker's James Wallace (Levittown, Pa.) led the offensive attack with four shots on net. Goaltender Tyler Stepke made 16 saves for the Hawks, while freshman Eric Sugrue (Naples, Fla.) stopped 13 Seahawks shots in relief.
The Seahawks James Malone had three goals on the night while Evan Schultz finished with four helpers. Goaltender Alexander Devine (Hampton, N.H.) posted 21 saves in the shutout.
Becker returns to action on Thursday, November 20 when they travel to Johnson & Wales for a 7:45 p.m. faceoff with the Wildcats. The Seahawks travel to Curry College for a 6:40 p.m. game the same night.
