Hawks sweep season series from Seahawks to remain on top

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team set a new program record with its 11th straight win Tuesday evening, defeating Salve Regina University by a 57-34 margin.

The win streak breaks the previous mark of ten straight set by the 2014-15 team that ended the season 19-8, tying the second-most single season wins in program history.

Outside of a pair of ties in the first quarter, the Hawks led wire to wire. Sam Leone (Ashland, Mass.) dropped in a layup off of an offensive board on the first RWU possession for the first score of the contest.

Jillian Woodward (Orono, Maine) knotted the game at seven with 3:31 left in the quarter, followed by Ally Esielionis (Shirley, Mass.) tying the game at nine. The Hawks would get consecutive baskets on a three from Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) and a layup from Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.). RWU would go on to take a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

Quilty gave the Hawks their largest lead of the game with 3:48 left in the second quarter. She completed a three-point play to make it a 24-13 advantage for RWU. Roger Williams went into halftime with a nine-point lead.

The Hawks essentially put away the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Seahawks by a 19-6 margin and eventually notching the 23-point win.

Quilty finished with a game-high 20 points, while Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.) finished with ten points. Rebecca Ritchie (Hanover, Mass.) added seven points, four rebounds, and three steals.

Woodward led Salve with 12 points off the bench, while Tara Burke (Londonderry, N.H.) finished with ten points and five rebounds. Mary Eden (S. Kingstown, R.I.) went for four points, nine boards, and six assists.

Roger Williams (16-4, 13-0 CCC) will look to sweep the season series over the University of New England Saturday at 1:00 pm. Salve Regina (5-15, 3-10 CCC) looks to snap a four-game skid Saturday at Eastern Nazarene.
