Seahawks rediscover offense with 15 goals over Columbus Day weekend

PROVIDENCE, RI – Visiting Salve Regina University had too much firepower for the Johnson & Wales University field hockey team on Monday afternoon. The Seahawks scored five goals in the first half to defeat the Wildcats 8-1.

The loss dropped Johnson & Wales to 2-8 while Salve Regina improved to 7-4.

The Seahawks got on the board in the ninth minute. Amber Cody slid a pass to Tori Bickel and she banged it in from point-blank range. Bickel scored 10 minutes later when her shot from 10 yards out found the back of the net.

Salve Regina's Ashley Cody also scored a pair of first half goals. She put back the rebound of her sister Amber's shot at the 16:13 mark then scored again off a deflection in the 22nd minute. Ashley Cody added two goals within 99 seconds of each other in the second half for a four-goal performance.

Johnson & Wales got on the board in the 48th minute. Katarina Brunette's (Latham, N.Y.) shot was redirected by Adriana Scala (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) for her team-leading sixth goal.

The Seahawks had a 29-8 advantage in shots as well as 9-0 for penalty corners. JWU goalkeeper Kaylee Gentilucci (Andover, N.J.) made eight saves in her collegiate debut.
