Summary
The Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team scored four goals in the third period to top visiting University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Friday night.

Series and Streaks
The Seahawks now lead the all-time series 3-2.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina sophomore Jack Billings (Oak Lawn, Ill.) scored twice and handed out an assist.
  2. Salve Regina freshman Timothy Sweeey (Hanover, Mass.) scored his first two collegiate goals.
  3. Salve Regina junior Blake Wojtala (Trenton, Mich.) made 19 saves to improve to 5-1-0 in net and become the Seahawks all-time leader in wins (30).

Turning Point
After trailing most of the game the Nor'easters scored two goals to close out the second period, leaving the Seahawks with a 4-3 at the break. Midway through the third the game still hung in the balance with the teams exchanging chances until a three-goal Salve Regina outburst. First Kyle Moore (Cumming, Ga.) scored on the break after a UNE defender fell down in the natural zone, giving Moore space to skate down the right-wing side. Next Shaun Patry (Penfield, N.Y.) battled for possession of the puck in the right-wing corner and tried to center it to a streaking teammate in front of the net. Instead the puck ricocheted off of the Nor'easters netminder and into the back of the net. Then Timothy Sweeney blasted home a shot from point blank range to cap a three-goal avalanche in the span of 62 seconds, giving the Seahawks a 7-3 lead.

  • Payton Porter (Houlton, Maine) got the start in net for the Nor'easters, but was chased after making five saves and allowing three goals in 14:39 of action in the first period. Ben Churchfield (Newcastle, England) took his spot between the pipes and allowed five goals while making 24 saves.
  • The Seahawks held a 37-22, and a 21-3 edge in the third period when they broke the game open.
  • Five different Seahawks scored in the game, with three (Billings, Patry, Sweeney) scoring multiple goals.
  • Salve Regina went 0-for-5 on the powerplay while the Nor'easters were 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
