Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Salve Regina University freshman running back Joey Mauriello (Colts Neck, N.J.) netted 160 yards rushing and two touchdowns to help the Seahawks defeat the visiting Bulldogs of Dean College, 27-18, at Toppa Field. Sophomore quarterback Jake Kelleher (Hopkinton, Mass.) threw for 146 yards and one touchdown, that TD pass coming on the opening series to Brendan Nunes (Attleboro, Mass.). After jumping to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, the Seahawk offense was limited to a pair of Andrew Verre (Wethersfield, Conn.) field goals (23, 28) in the second and third quarters. Dean (0-3) closed within two points, 20-18, before Salve Regina (2-1) finished the scoring in a non-league game with Mauriello's one-yard plunge and four minutes left in the fourth.
Freshman QB Terrell Watts (New Haven, Conn.) tossed for 186 yards and two TDs, including a long of 64 to Quintus Reid (New Haven, Conn.), for the Bulldogs. Watts completed 13 of 29 passes and was sacked twice - once each by seniors Brandon O'Neill (Madison, Conn.) and John Salute (Mahwah, N.J.).
After Reid's 64-yard TD reception made the score 20-18, Salute came up with the big stop of freshman Ki'sean Bullard (Miami, Fla.) on the Bulldogs' two-point conversion attempt.

Salve Regina leads the all-time series, 3-0, and has posted 27 points each of the last two meetings. In 2017, the Seahawks blanked the Bulldogs, 27-0, in Bellingham, Mass.

- Salve Regina freshman Joey Mauriello (Colts Neck, N.J.) carried the ball 29 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns; he also caught two passes for 31 yards.
- Salve Regina senior Brandon O'Neill (Madison, Conn.) led the Seahawk defense with seven tackles (five solo) including a sack for minus-six yards and another tackle for a loss of five yards.
- Dean freshman Terrell Watts (New Haven, Conn.) passed for 186 yards and two touchdowns.
Turning Point
Points after touchdowns were the difference. Salve Regina converted on all three of its touchdowns with senior Andrew Verre (Wethersfield, Conn.) splitting the uprights. He also chipped in six more points with a pair of field goals (23, 28). The Bulldogs however missed on all three attempts in order - kick, pass, rush - with John Salute (Mahwah, N.J.) making the big stop on the potential game-tying conversion.

Dean had one more penalty than Salve Regina (10-9), but the Seahawks lost 32 more yards due to their infractions (87-55).
Quick Hits
- Errol Breaux (Marietta, Ga.), Julian Burris (Marietta, Ga.), and Nicholas Cade (Carrolton, Ga.) have been explosive in the kick return game for the Bulldogs, each with a touchdown on the season of 82 yards or greater, but the Seahawks "held them in check" with 127 yards on five returns (25.4 average yards per return) and a long of 43 by Cade.
- Andrew Verre also had four punts totaling 155 yards (38.4 per punt) and dropped two inside the 20-yard line.
- O'Neill, Matt Messner (Midland Park, N.J.), Salute, and Charlie Connell (Oradell, N.J.) led the Seahawks with seven, seven, six, and six tackles, respectively. In addition to his sack of Watts for a six-yard loss, O'Neill also made another tackle in the backfield for a five-yard loss.
- Travis Byars (Atlanta, Ga.), Gene Baisden Jr. (Tampa, Fla.), and Wadell Alceus (Apopka, Fla.) led the Bulldogs with 10, nine, and seven tackles respectively.
- The Bulldogs had 10 tackles in the backfield to total 42 loss yards.
- On the first Seahawk series, sophomore QB Tyler McGovern (Attleboro, Mass.) came in to pooch punt successfully inside the 20, but the Bulldogs were guilty of roughing the kicker so the drive continued and McGovern stayed in for one throw as he completed a 26-yard pass to Ryan Lawton (Washington Township, N.J.).
