Summary
NEWPORT, R.I. - Sophomore forward Eliza Timms (Agawam, Mass.) scored twice to help the Salve Regina University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Wheaton College in non-conference action Wednesday night.

Series and Streaks
Wheaton leads the all-time series 5-9 however the Seahawks have won four straight versus the Lyons.

Three Stars of the Game

  1. Salve Regina sophomore Eliza Timms scored her second and third goals of the season to account for all of the Seahawks scoring.
  2. Wheaton senior Morgan Karnes (Durham, Maine) made nine saves in the loss to fall to 0-2 between the pipes for the Lyons.
  3. Salve Regina senior Olivia St. Jean (Goffstown, N.H.) assisted on the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter.

Turning Point
Timms scored her first goal with 18 seconds left in the first quarter. The Seahawks were held in check by Morgan Karnes for most of the match, routinely stopping 2-on-1 or even 3-on-1 breaks, keeping it a one score game. Early in the fourth quarter, St. Jean carried the ball wide down the left side and fired a pass along the end line towards the goal. It came right to Timms in front of the cage and she fired the redirect in for her second of the night to give the Seahawks a 2-0 lead. The Lyons would tack on a goal in the 50th minute when Lauren Bartlett (Middlebury, Vt.) tipped home a pass from Elizabeth Helmreich (Sanford, Maine). The Seahawks defense clamped down though and did not allow a shot the remainder of the game to hold on for the 2-1 victory.

Key Stat of the Game
Salve Regina outshot the Lyons 23-9 and 11-2 in shots on goal.
