CANTON, Mass. – Senior Billy Vizzo (Shelton, Conn.) tallied a hat trick and two assists to guide the Curry College men's ice hockey team to an 8-4 victory over Salve Regina University on Friday night at the Canton Ice House.

The first period featured two goals from each side. Vizzo found the back of the net off of assists from sophomores Mic Curran (Arlington, Mass.) and Alex Ochterbeck (Dallas, Texas) 11:24 in. The Seahawks answered back with two straight, one from junior Timothy Sweeney (Hanover, Mass.) and the other from classmate Danny Eruzione (Winthrop, Mass.). The two tallies were separated by 1:11 of game time. Curran then pulled the Colonels even with a marker with 4:54 to play. Juniors Viktor Jansson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Tyler Lindstrom (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) picked up the helpers.

Curry (15-4-3 overall, 10-3-2 CCC) broke the contest open in the second, netting three straight goals to build a 5-2 lead. Vizzo, junior Eetu Selanne (Coto de Caza, Calif.), and sophomore Kalle Sundell (Helsinki, Finland) all scored on the run. Sundell's goal started a streak of four straight of which were scored on the power play. Sophomore George Sennott (North Andover, Mass.), and Vizzo followed with power play goals of their own as the middle period ended with the Colonels leading 6-3.

Salve Regina (12-9-1 overall, 8-6-1 CCC) got one back to start the third as freshman Cayden Kraus (East St. Paul, Manitoba) ended the streak of power plays when he deposited one off a helper from sophomore Matthew Dillon (Grafton, Mass.) and junior Vincenzo Renda (Westmount, Quebec). Curry picked up two insurance tallies to close out the contest as senior captain Jordan Williamson (Okotoks, Alberta) and Ochterbeck found the back of the net for the 8-4 final.

The Seahawks finished with a 53-46 edge in shots while the Colonels held the advantage on the power play. Curry ended 3-for-7 and Salve Regina went 2-for-8.

Senior Justin Ketola (Cloquet, Minn.) secured his tenth win on the season and registered 49 saves. Sophomore Louis-Felix St. Jean (St. Bruno, Quebec) was credited with the loss, making 34 stops.

The two teams will square off again tomorrow, February 15 at the Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink at 7:05 p.m.
