Cadets edge Seahawks in OT

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Sophomore defenseman Joe Nagle (Weymouth, Mass.) scored with 2:14 left in overtime to lift the Norwich University men's ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over Salve Regina on Saturday night at Kreitzberg Arena.

Nagle scored a 4-on-3 power play goal, sniping the top-left corner of the net with a shot that banked off the post and into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal.

After a scoreless first period, Salve Regina struck first with John McLean scoring off a face-off win play from Tyler Carangelo at the 4:54 mark of the middle frame. McLean snuck the puck past Norwich senior goalie Drennen Atherton (Winter Haven, Fla.) to give the Seahawks a 1-0 lead after Carangelo won the puck over to his left.

Norwich responded at the 12:18 mark of the second period with Elgstam lighting the lamp on the power play off assists from Becker and Braedyn Aubin (Woodstock, Ontario).

Williams gave Norwich its first lead of the game at the 15:06 mark of the second period, scoring off an assist from Becker to make it 2-1 Cadets.

Salve Regina pulled its goalie with 1:30 to go in the game and ended up tying the game with the extra attacker as John MacLean found the back of the net off assists from George Sennott and Ethan DeStefani

Norwich (1-0-0) hosts UMass Boston on Friday, November 5, at 7 p.m., while Salve Regina (0-1-0) returns home to host Endicott.
