THE LEAD – A strong showing in the middle two quarters saw the Saints outscore the Seahawks 45-28, helping Emmanuel College to their 76-60 win over Salve Regina in the EC Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints and Seahawks were locked in a tight battle in the opening quarter but a jumper by senior Loredana D'Agostino (Broad Brook, Conn.) gave the Saints a one-point lead, an advantage they wouldn't surrender for the remainder of the game. Leading 19-14 going into the second quarter, the Saints took command of the game, starting the second on a 13-2 run over a span of 4:33 to lead 32-16. Emmanuel would outscore Salve Regina 19-9 in the quarter, taking a 38-23 lead into halftime. In the third, the Saints put together their best quarter of the afternoon and despite allowing 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting to the Seahawks, the Saints shot 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the floor, scoring 26 points, to increase their lead to 64-42. Salve Regina outscored Emmanuel by six in the final 10 minutes, but the strong three quarters by the Saints lifted them to the win and final of 76-60.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Saints graduate student Jamad Fiin (Boston, Mass.) finished with a game-high 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting in 19 minutes. D'Agostino added 15 points in the win on 6-of-11 shooting in 23 minutes. Sophomores Allison Wild (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Kiera Eubanks (Portland, Maine) each scored eight points off the bench, contributing 16 of the Saints 35 total bench points. Seahawks sophomore Briana Neary (Wayne, N.J.) led the team with 14 points. Junior Megan Henaghan (Whitman, Mass.) added 10 points. Both Neary and Henaghan finished with 11 rebounds. Junior Morgan Shuey (Corning, Iowa) added 11 points for Salve Regina.

The Saints advance to the Championship Game tomorrow afternoon in the EC Tip-Off Tournament where they will meet Moravian University for a 3:00 p.m. tip on Yosinoff Court. The Seahawks head for the Consolation Game in the Tip-Off Tournament and will face Russell Sage College at 1:00 p.m. at Emmanuel's Yosinoff Court.
