Spencer spins record 45 points in Seahawk win

BRISTOL, R.I. (January 12, 2022) - Salve Regina University senior Mikey Spencer (Abington, Mass.) led a strong second half for men's basketball with 31 of his school-record 45 points as the Seahawks erased an 18-point deficit to win on the road against Roger Williams University, 97-88, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

Roger Williams stepped out of the gate on fire, with each starter for the Hawks scoring on their first shot attempt of the game. Conversely, the Seahawks missed their first seven shots in the contest. The end result was a 12-0 lead for Roger Williams over the first three minutes of the game.
 
After a Salve timeout, the Seahawks got back on track, with back-to-back steals leading to a pair of buckets. Salve eventually pulled within three (17-14) with 12:50 left in the half. Yet the Hawks answered with a barrage of threes to take a 35-17 lead, capped off with a trey from John Ah Kao (Dumont, N.J.). The Hawks had the hot hand in the early goings of the half, shooting over 70 percent at one point while hitting their first eight threes of the game. Despite the setback, Salve kept its composure and managed to make it a nine-point game entering halftime (50-41).
 
In the second half, Salve opened the period on a 13-7 run to pull within three. Then back-to-back steals and layups for the Seahawks gave them their first lead (70-69) with 10:30 to play. From there, Salve managed to build their lead to ten (82-72) with 6:23 to play and the Hawks were unable to make their way back in the game.
