Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. (January 8, 2022) - Salve Regina University graduate student Cameron Collins (Montville, Conn.) came off the bench to lead all players with 26 points on 10-of-11 from the field and six-of-seven from the charity stripe as the Seahawks defeated visiting Gordon College, 93-73, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
Senior Chris Peasley (Plainfield, Conn.) earned his first start of the season and gave the Seahawks their first lead (13-12) since Kevin Kelly's (Valhalla, N.Y.) game-opening layup. Collins entered the game at 14:42 in the first half and contributed a pair of layups, a free throw, and a blocked shot in his first four minutes. His layup at 10:33 was followed by his steal moments later and a seven-point lead (26-19) when freshman Declan Walmsley (Franklin, Mass.) converted a fast break layup.
After Parker Omslaer (Jackson, N.J.) scored a layup for the Fighting Scots (4-6, 1-4 CCC) and brought the visitors within three (31-28) with five and a half minutes left in the period, the Seahawks finished the half with a 19-2 run. Mikey Spencer's (Abington, Mass.) free throws started the run.
Clay Brochu (North Kingstown, R.I.) made a pair of 3-pointers that boosted a 40-30 Seahawk advantage to 16 points before another pair of Spencer free throws. Collins finished the first half scoring with a layup in the final minute for his 14th point and a 20-point lead at the break. Gordon got no closer than 14 points in the second half as both teams finished with 43 points in the final 20 minutes. Salve Regina's (8-3, 3-1 CCC) largest lead (25 points) came after an old-fashioned three-point play for Spencer with an assist from Andrew Richards (Rosedale, N.Y.).
Six Seahawks finished with double-digit scoring with Kelly (16), Brochu (14), Peasley (14), Spencer (13), and Walsmley (10) joining Collins in that category. Garrett Sarrazahn (Morris, Conn.) led the Scots with 14 points while Michael Makiej (Andover, Mass.) was next with 11 points. Bryce Smith (San Francisco, Calif.) and David Massillon (Lynn, Mass.) both finished with 10 points.
The Seahawks next play at Roger Williams University on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Gordon returns to action versus the University of New England on the same evening in Wenham, Massachusetts.
