NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University senior keeper Georgia Drake (Plymouth, Mass.) as its Defensive Player of the Week for women's soccer.
Drake faced double-digit shots in both contests this week as Salve Regina played to a 1-1 record. First on Wednesday (Oct. 5), Drake was forced to make 10 saves, but took a 3-0 defeat. However, just three days later, she was able to deny 22 Endicott opportunities to lift the Seahawks to a 2-1 victory over CCC rival Endicott. The 22 saves were the third most in a single game in Salve Regina history.
"Georgia is a fantastic goal keeper. She is a great shot stopper with her reach and ability to cover post to post," said head coach
Tanya Roberts. "I've been waiting for her to let go, be big, and show everyone what she's capable of. We need to show up as a team every game and when the team needed Georgia she took that moment and put the team on her back in historic fashion, setting a great example of leadership."
Salve Regina (5-7-1, 2-1-1 CCC) travels to play Western New England on Tuesday, October 11, at 3:30 p.m.
