MIDDLETOWN, R.I. - Despite surrendering a 3-0 lead in the third period the University of New England women's ice hockey team hung on to defeat Salve Regina University 4-3 in overtime of a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup Friday evening.

Salve Regina honored its eight seniors before the game. Kimberly Dunn, Madison Jalbert, Cassidy Lariviere, Colby Lopez-Balboa, Dakota McMahon, Brynn Mendes, Celia Palzkill, and Paige Stapleton were each joined by family and friends for a special pregame ceremony to commemorate their four-plus years at Salve Regina. Three Stars of the Game

  1. UNE senior Bella Crugnale (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored the game-winner for the visitors in overtime.
  2. Salve Regina senior Dakota McMahon (Newington, Conn.) scored her first career goal to complete a 3-0 run by the Seahawks to force overtime.
  3. UNE sophomore Delanie Corcoran (East Sandiwch, Mass.) made 30 saves, one in overtime, to improve to 9-6-2 in net.

Turning Point
Salve Regina trailed 3-0 heading into the third period, but outshot the Nor'easters 15-6 in the frame and scored three times to force overtime. Each team had a chance to end it in overtime. Corcoran stopped the lone shot on goal from the Seahawks and Carolyn Curley (Tewksury, Mass.) broke up a 2-on-1 break for Salve Regina leading to a counter for the Nor'easters. Avery Lutrzykowski (Winthrop, Maine) gained the zone and slid a pass across to Bella Crugnale who finished off the 2-on-1 break at 1:42 of the extra frame to give UNE the victory.

Quick Hits

  • Salve Regina scored three goals in thr span of 7:35 in the third period. First Cassidy Lariviere (Marstons Mills, Mass.) cleaned up a loose puck in front of an odd hop from the endboards, then Maddie Cox (Barrington, R.I.) went coast-to-coast and snuck a shot five-hole, before McMahon knocked in her first career goal on the power play for Salve Regina to even the game at 3-3.
  • Eliana Kane (Haverhill, Mass.) put UNE on the board in the first period, then two goals in the second from Meghan Hamilton (Rutland, Vt.) and McKenna Remillard (Fairfield, Vt.) gave the visitors a 3-0 advantage.
