Box Score MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- The Salve Regina field hockey team defeated the Wheaton College Lyons 4-1 Tuesday night at Gaudet Field. Senior Shannon Kennedy scored nine minutes into the game and the Seahawks never looked back.
This is the team's second NEWMAC win of the 2023 season after defeating Springfield College (5-4), and falling to Smith College (2-0) and Wellesley College (3-2). The seahawks are now 2-2 in conference action.

All-Time Series: The Seahawks are 8-9 against the Lyons. In 2022 Salve Regina won 4-1 over Wheaton.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Shannon Kennedy opened the game with an unassisted goal 9:19 into the contest.
- Wheaton turned up their defensive efforts, determined to match the Seahawks however, neither team was able to score in the second period.
- The only goal in the third period was scored by Julia Decker on an assist from Jordyn Pineau. This brought the score to 2-0 in favor of Salve Regina.
- In an effort to put the Lyons on the board, Ally Slicer made the sole Wheaton goal of the game at 1:09 into the fourth quarter.
- Shannon Kennedy made it impossible for the Lyons to gain any more momentum, scoring with just two minutes to go in the game on an assist from Jordyn Pineau.
- At the final buzzer Georgia Costello scored a penalty kick goal, making the final score a 4-1 win for Salve Regina.
