Box Score NEWPORT, R.I.-- Women's volleyball engaged in a high-energy match against No. 1 in the NEWMAC, Springfield College. The Pride defeated the Seahawks 3-0, moving to 10-0 in the conference.
Seahawk volleyball dedicated the evening to raise funds for the Drew Ceppetelli Scholarship Fund and energetic fans filled the Rodgers Recreation Center gymnasium to show their support.
In set one Maeve Voltz got the Pride on the board, but Brighton Solheim responded with a kill, awarding the Seahawks their first points of the day. Throughout the first set Springfield slowly increased their lead and took advantage of several three-point and four-point runs. Once the score reached 10-7 the Pride used a Seahawk attack error to catapult them forward with a kill and two service aces. Despite an attack error and a service error from Springfield and a kill from Solheim, the score reached 24-19 in favor of the Pride. Emily Keaveney put an end to the first set by delivering a kill for Springfield and the score went in the books as 25-19.
Two attack errors and a ball handling error gave the Seahawks an advantage at the beginning of set two. The team's reached a 12-12 tie mid-match but Springfield went on a four-point run. Solheim provided a block and Lauren Hoyle make a kill, slowing the Pride down however, it wasn't enough to prevent Springfield from advancing to a 25-16 final score in set two. The third set was a back-and-forth game with the early score quickly moving from 7-7 to 11-11. Each team was looking to capitalize on the close match. The Pride made a kill and two Seahawk attack errors granted Springfield a 25-21 win.
