Cox and Simcox lead 2-0 Seahawk shutout of Rams

BOSTON, Mass.-- The Salve Regina women's ice hockey team shoutout Suffolk University 2-0 Friday night in Boston, Massachusetts during the team's first CCC game of the year. The two goal-scorers of the evening were Maddie Cox '24 and Fiona Simcox '27. 

Cox scored early in the first period, shortly after Sydney Baxter left the net and quickly returned, trying to give Salve Regina an extra skater on the ice. The goal came at 5:44 into the contest, and Emily Wroblewski made the assist. By getting the Seahawks on the board, Cox scored her first goal of the season. 

It wasn't until 12:31 into the second period that the Seahawks made the second goal of the shutout. Simcox scored her first goal of the season and the first goal of her college career. Emily Wagner and Aryana Wilson were credited with the assists. 

Following Simcox's goal the Salve Regina went on their third powerplay of the evening, however no goals followed. Neither team scored in the third period, giving the Seahawks their first CCC win of the year. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Records: Salve Regina (2-0-0, 1-0-0 CCC), Suffolk (0-3-0, 0-1-0 CCC)
All-Time Series: The Seahawks were 0-6 going into the game. After tonight's result Salve Regina is 1-6 against the Rams. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Sydney Baxter made a total of 30 saves during the matchup and Suffolk's Izzy Buckett made 18 saves. 
  • The Seahawks made 14 blocks and the Rams had eight blocks.
  • Both Salve Regina and Suffolk went on the power play four times during the game. 

POSTGAME THOUGHTS FROM COACH LUN:

 "We got some solid goaltending and timely execution," said Lun. "Not our cleanest game but we were able to close out a greasy road win. Excited to get back home and host Suffolk tomorrow night."


ON THE HORIZON: 

The Seahawks face Suffolk again on Saturday, October 4 at home on the St. George's ice at 7 p.m.
