Box Score

NEWPORT, R.I.-- Salve Regina women's volleyball defeated local Rhode Island institution Johnson & Wales University 3-0 Tuesday night on the hardwood floors of the Rodgers Recreation Center going 25-22, 25-20 and 25-22.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Salve Regina 3, Johnson & Wales 0
Record: Salve Regina (5-1), Johnson & Wales (2-5)
All-Time Series: Since 2003 the Seahawks have won seven games and lost 12 games to the Wildcats. In 2022 Salve Regina bested Johnson & Wales 3-0.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Neither team entered the first set with a sizeable lead, but the Seahawks stuck in the game and started to pull away from the Wildcats when the score approached 16-14. Salve Regina kept that same mental approach for the second two sets and inched ahead of their Rhode Island counterparts.
  • Lucy Swanson lead the team in kills (9), with Brighton Solheim (8), Lauren Hoyle (7) and Lydia Daskalos (6) close behind.
  • Siena DeCicco provided 32 assists, and Brighton Solheim had 13 digs.

COACH THOUGHTS:

"Johnson & Wales is a very well-coached team but Salve volleyball really did a great job of handling what we needed to handle today," said head coach Sebastian Noordzy. "We made the right plays at the right moment and did what we needed to do by stopping what they were doing. We are definitely very excited for the rest of the season. It's exciting that we've been able to accumulate wins against quality teams."

ATHLETE THOUGHTS:

"We prepared really well, and we used that to execute what we have been practicing," said graduate libero Kate Murphy. "We were disciplined throughout the game and made changes where we needed to both individually and as a group. It feels really good and is a big win for us. They are a good team so to come in, take care of business and never fall behind is a confidence booster for us moving forward."

ON THE HORIZON:

The Seahawks will return to action Thursday, Sept 14. when the team travels to Boston, Mass. to face Simmons University at 7 p.m.
