NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- (Tuesday, October 15, 2024)-- Following two close sets, the Salve Regina University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to NEWMAC adversary Smith College on the road at the Pioneers' Ainsworth Gym.
Set one was tied up at 18 when a kill by Smith's Abby Hunt set off a five-point run for the Pioneers to which the Seahawks were unable to respond. This gave Smith a 25-21 advantage. In the second set it was close right up until the end. Three decisive kills by the Pioneers made the difference in the set's outcome. Two five-point runs gave Smith a 20-10 lead in set three which they capitalized on for a 25-16 final score.

Records: Salve Regina (6-12, 3-3 NEWMAC), Smith (17-5, 5-1 NEWMAC)
History: Since the 2013 season, in which the teams met twice, Salve Regina is 2-4 against Smith. The past three meetings have been a 3-0 loss for the Seahawks. The only NEWMAC team that Smith has lost to in 2024 is Springfield College.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Lucy Swanson led the Seahawks with nine kills.
- Siena DeCicco had 22 assists and nine digs as the leader for Salve Regina.
- Salve Regina had 34 to Smith's 48 kills.
- Smith saw a .353 hitting percentage.

On Saturday, October 19, at 1 p.m. Salve Regina will head to Wellesley, Massachusetts for a NEWMAC match against the Babson College Beavers.
