No. 5 Engineers take control in the first half for 6-1 final

Daniewicz's team-leading sixth goal ties score in 13th minute

NEWPORT, R.I. -- No. 5 - ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology  women's soccer scored a 6-1 final against Salve Regina University in NEWMAC action at Reynolds Field on Saturday, October 19, in Newport, Rhode Island. The Engineers (13-1-1, 7-0-0 NEWMAC) got on the board early with Sean Luk scoring her third goal of the season in the third minute. Hannah Daniewicz, the leading scorer for the Seahawks (2-10-3, 1-3-3 NEWMAC), tied the game in the 13th minute when she converted a corner kick from Allie Gallagher for her sixth goal of the season.

Natalie Barnouw broke the tie with her first of three straight goals on the day 20 seconds later. Barnouw notched her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 16th minute to complete a hat trick for a 4-1 lead. Lauren Davis headed in a corner kick from Barnouw for a 5-1 lead, capping a furious 10-minute span in the first half. Qiana Felician finished the scoring when she completed a corner kick started by Adeline Perkins and assisted by Jojo Miller.

History: Salve Regina and MIT meet in women's soccer for the eighth time. The programs played a home-away series for six straight seasons between 1991 and 1996. Last year in Cambridge, Massachusetts, was the first meeting since 1996 and first as fellow NEWMAC members. The Engineers had three different players score their fourth goals of the season in a 3-0 final against the Seahawks in 2023. All the goals came in the second half.
