PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- (Thursday, October 24, 2024)-- To overcome a late surge by Rhode Island College, Salve Regina University women's volleyball won 3-1 in non-conference play at the Anchormen's home court, The Murray Center.
The Seahawks started the match out strong with a pair of wins 25-20 and 25-17. In set one, the game was tied at 20 even. Lauren Hoyle, who was dynamic at the net with a season high and Seahawk four-set match record 24 kills, led with a kill and triggered a series of errors by RIC to award the Seahawks the first set. Set two was even more successful for Salve Regina with the team from Newport dominating late in the set. Cecelia Bronson and Lauren Hoyle combined for five kills and together with an attack error by RIC Salve Regina went from a 16-16 tie to a 22-16 advantage.
RIC rebounded in set three by getting a slight lead early and recording the last five points of the game. The Anchormen attempted to force a five-setter but Salve Regina had other plans. In set four RIC got out to an early 7-4 lead but the Seahawks continued to make moves, advancing to 10-10 and then 14-10. Once again RIC closed the gap and with a 23-23 tie Lucy Swanson's kill and an attack error by the Anchormen gave Salve Regina the game, 25-23.

History: Salve Regina is 11-6 all-time against RIC. Going into today's contest the Seahawks last two meetings against the Anchormen have been 3-0 wins. In 2022 when the teams last saw each other it was Salve Regina's home opener.
NOTEWORTHY:
- Following Lauren Hoyle's 24 kills Lucy Swanson had 15. Hoyle exceeded RIC's top performer by 14 kills.
- Siena DeCicco saw 38 digs.
- With a hitting percentage of .212 Salve Regina had 146 total attempts, compared to RIC's .162 and 130.

On Saturday, October 26, Salve Regina hosts a tri-match with Bates College and Lasell University in attendance. The Seahawks play the Bobcats at 11 a.m. At 1 p.m. the Bobcats take on the Lasers. The final game of the day is a 3 p.m. face off between Salve Regina and Lasell.
