SALEM, Mass. (Friday, November 1, 2024)-- Salve Regina University men's ice hockey grabbed their first win of 2024-25 with a 6-2 victory over Salem State University in both adversaries season openers Friday night at the Vikings' Rockett Arena.

History: Prior to tonight's win the last time Salve Regina saw Salem State in men's ice hockey was 2012.
The Vikings beat the Seahawks 3-2 at Salve Regina's home venue which, at the time, was Portsmouth Abbey Ice Rink.

Logan Calder got the action going for Salve Regina at 9:10 in period one with a power play opportunity after the Vikings had been called for interference.
Arvega Hovsepyan scored his first collegiate goal when he caught Vikings Will Nepveu out of the net and sent a shot just inside the post from beyond face off circle.
Cade Destefani added Salve Regina'a second power play goal of the period.
Destefani found the back of the net yet again in the third period, along with
Aidan Connolly and
Matthew Brunton. The only two goals that the Seahawks allowed came in the first and second periods. Jon Waselko initially tied the game prior to Hovsepyan's snipe. Carson Whitman was the sole scorer in the middle 20 minutes but Salve Regina already led 3-2 and continued to push forward.
NOTEWORTHY
- Salve Regina scored on four out of nine power play opportunities while Salem State capitalized on one out of six.
- Cayden Bailey spent the whole game in net and made 29 saves. He faced 11 shots in the second period, the highest from the Vikings across the encounter.
- Will Nepveu of Salem State faced 41 shots by Salve Regina. The Seahawks took 18 shots in the second period, their game-high.
- The team from Newport had took control of the puck right from the puck drop with 43-19 face off wins.

Next Saturday, November 9, Salve Regina will play their home opener against UMass Boston at the Cabot-Harman Ice Center at 7:30 p.m.
