Salve Regina defeats UMass Boston for the first time in men's basketball

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University men's basketball held visiting UMass Boston to 16 second half points and rallied for a 65-61 triumph in non-league action at the Rodgers Recreation Center in Newport, Rhode Island. Jojo Powers led the Seahawks (1-1) with 15 points on 4-of-6 from the floor with two 3-pointers and five free throws. The Beacons (0-1) shot 50 percent from the floor (17-for-34) in the first half including the same percentage from long range (7-for-14).

History: Salve Regina wins for the first-time ever in men's basketball against UMass Boston (1-4). The teams have now met three straight years after first meeting in 1983 and then again in 1985.

ON THE HORIZON
Salve Regina competes this weekend in the Jim Beaudry Classic hosted by the University of New England. On Saturday, the Seahawks tip off against the Mariners of Mitchell College at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the matchup will either be against the host Nor'easters or Maine Maritime.
