Salve Regina finishes strong against Curry in 45-point win

Seymour, Powers score 19 and 17, respectively

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University men's basketball went scoreless in the first three minutes of each half but exploded for 40 and 44 points to record a 45-point victory (84-39) over visiting Curry College in non-league action at the Rodgers Recreation Center in Newport, Rhode Island.

Sean Seymour and Jojo Powers produced double-digit scoring for the Seahawks (3-2) with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Malik Gelinas led the Colonels (0-4) with 11 points. Powers put the Seahawks on the board with his 3-pointer at the 17:03 mark in the first. Salve Regina shot 35 percent (12-for-34) from the floor in the first half and raised it to 52 percent (19-for-36) in the second.

The Seahawks scored 50 points off turnovers, 44 in the paint, and 29 on the fast break. Powers added a game-high seven steals.

History: These programs meet for the 73rd time in men's basketball and second time since the Seahawks departed the Commonwealth Coast Conference (now Conference of New England). The first meeting was in 1983. Salve Regina leads the all-time series, 46 to 27, and the Seahawks have won 14 of the last 15 meetings. Last year in Milton, Mass., the Colonels won on a 3-pointer by Lowelle Torres with three seconds to go, 58-57.
