Mules subdue Seahawks, 82-73

Powers pours in 31 points for Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University senior guard Jojo Powers scored a game-high and career-best 31 points but the Seahawks fell by nine, 82-73, to the visiting Mules of Colby College in non-league men's basketball action at the Rodgers Recreation Center in Newport, Rhode Island. Marcos Montiel paced the visitors with 22 points.

History: These programs meet for the fourth time in men's basketball and third straight season. Colby has won all three previous meetings including the first in 1999 in Waterville, Maine (78-62). Last year at Colby, Salve Regina had three players score in double figures -- Sean Seymour (17), Clay Brochu (12), Declan Walmsley (12) -- but fell by two, 74-72. Max Poulton led all players with 28 points.

  • 1H | Jojo Powers was nearly perfect in the first 20 minutes with 21 points on 7-of-9 from the floor, including 3-for-3 from 3-point land, and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
