Seahawks fall to Cardinals 3-2 in overtime

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (Tuesday, November 26, 2024)-- In non-conference action Salve Regina University women's ice hockey lost a close game to Wesleyan University when the Cardinals scored 48 seconds into overtime for a 3-2 decision.

History: Salve Regina is 7-11 all-time against Wesleyan dating back to 2004. In November of 2022 Wesleyan won 4-0. Ellee Kopecky '24 made 41 saves in net for the Seahawks. 

NOTEWORTHY
  • Salve Regina was the first to get on the board after a scoreless first period. Gina Richard netted the first goal at the 15:36 mark in period two with an assist from Ashtyn Bringardner.
  • The Cardinals scored two unanswered goals to put them ahead 2-1, however with less than three minutes to go in regulation Samantha McKenzie tied it up, which prompted an overtime period.
  • The Cardinals got the best of the Seahawks with a shot from right in front of the Seahawks net, despite an attempted diving save by Sydney Baxter. Baxter totaled 26 saves over 60:48.
