Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Seahawks tie Camels 3-3, win shootout 2-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. (Sunday, December 1, 2024)-- Arvega Hovsepyan and Logan Calder led the Salve Regina University men's ice hockey team to a 2-0 shootout success after they remained tied 3-3 following three regulation periods and one overtime sudden victory period.

Records: Salve Regina (4-3-1, 3-3-0 NEHC), Connecticut College (4-1-1, 3-1-0 NESCAC)
History: Before today Salve Regina has never seen a win against the Camels in men's ice hockey. The last meeting of the two programs was a 4-1 loss on January 10, 2020. Mitch Walinski '23 scored the opening goal at 5:49 in the first period and the Camels rebounded with three goals in the second and one in the third. 

NOTEWORTHY:
  • It took 2:50 before ether side was able to manage a shot but Jack Franklin fired off the first attempt, going just wide which got the teams into action. 
  • Conn was the first team to score when Andrew Eberling tipped it in to put the Camels ahead. However, it held for less than ten minutes because Aidan Connolly found the back of the net with the help of Ian Tookenay and Cade DeStefani to make it 1-1 going into the first intermission. 
  • The next three goals, one for Connecticut and two for Salve Regina all occurred on the power play. Damon Zimmer and Walter Baumann struck before the clock ran out on period two.
  • Conn trailed 3-2 and with 90 seconds remaining in regulation they pulled their goalie, Kellen Beauton, from the ice which gave the Camels an extra skater advantage and William Tripp was able to score. 
  • Salve Regina outshoot Conn 41-38 across 65 minutes. 
  • Arvega Hovsepyan and Logan Calder both made their shootout attempts and Selby Warren held the Camels at 0. 
ON THE HORIZON
On Friday, December 6, men's ice hockey will be on the road at Castleton University in Vermont at 7 p.m.
