Seahawks deal Engineers their first loss of season

Stack comes back to account for three Salve Regina TDs

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Salve Regina University senior quarterback Jake Stack returned to action in the NEWMAC football opener for the Seahawks against the Engineers of MIT, and he led his mates to a 19-0 lead by halftime accounting for all three touchdowns in the 19-6 final. Stack had two first-quarter passing strikes -- a nine-yarder to Max Mazzella with just under seven minutes remaining in the opening stanza, and a 15-yard connection over the middle to Jacob Perez at 3:14 to go.

Stack's four-yard run to the right finished with a dive towards the pylon at the 2:48 mark in the second quarter and Chris DiBella kicked the extra point for the 19-0 lead at intermission. The senior  signal-caller, who had missed the previous two games (both road losses), finished with 251 yards passing on 23 completions including a long strike to Andre Sullivan. Stack did throw a pair of picks near the goal line, but neither interception came back to haunt the Seahawks.
